Cal Carboner

Cal Carboner was a building where the father’s owner used to live. Most of the Pyrenees villages are depopulating and this building remained in ruins for a long time. The nostalgia to see again the house  where the childhood memories were, gave birth a new house in the little village of Castellbò. The house has wheeled access from the ground floor, where the main road is. It has a pedestrian access from the second floor.  In this level we place the living room, dining room, kitchen and a small bathroom. The first floor contains the night area. The will of the client was to open a big window facing the church and also a big chimney. We reused the best stone from the demolition to build the new facade; stained concrete in the basement, choosing  the same colour as the mortar joints of the adjoining buildings and the pine wood stained in gates and doors. One of the most visible façades is a dividing wall. In order to integrate it as much as we could, it is lined with stone. As we can’t open any window there, we fix some old wooden frames and we cover them with stone, simulating the old windows surrounding that have suffered the changes of use over time. It has been a sewing  intervention in a village full of medieval history.
